Greetings entrepreneurs and those seeking to become successful entrepeneurs,
In this two part series on how to keep your great team, I am going to reveal some of the secrets I’ve discovered from over thirty years of entrepreneurial success and my work as a small business coach.
In part two, I am going to provide you with one of the best ways, if not THE best way, to not only keep your great team on board but to massively increase your profits while doing so!!
If you want to not only attract, but keep the best people, taking care of your people must become a top priority. And, the strategy for doing this is actually amazingly simple.
First give them the support and tools they need to succeed.
Second, ask them what they want, what would make them happy at work.
Third, discover ways to provide anything on their list that is realistically affordable!
Take care of your employees and they will take care of you. However, only if you explain that this is how you do business. The type of people who will become your super-stars, will love to play by these win-win rules.
Anyone who won’t play by these rules, you don’t want. If they ultimately won’t fit in, then fire them.
You can’t afford to have them on your team, and frankly, you are not just being fair to them, you may also be providing them with a much needed wake up call.
You are being strong enough to tell them the truth. If they want to move ahead, achieve something truly valuable with their life, then it’s time for them to start demanding more from themselves.
You are also being fair to your team. After all, you are building a team so that everyone will support one another, each contribute, and work together to achieve the results you want. Therefore you aren’t just being fair, you are taking care of your team by requiring that each member give their best, meet the same standards, and work together.
Now, I am going to tell you one of the biggest mistakes many small business owners make. They view what they pay their people, including their benefits and incentives, as a cost. And, because they see it as a cost, they want to make it as small as possible. If they could get their people to work for free, they honestly would. BIG MISTAKE!
In the next blog, part two, I am going to reveal how as a small business owner you can compete with the big companies because you offer such as great benefit, everyone is going to want to work for YOU!
